The First Climb Out of the Darkness Event Comes to the Jersey Shore

This Saturday in Ship Bottom

By Toms River Macaroni Kid September 4, 2019

Saturday is the first Climb out of the Darkness for the Jersey Shore Area, benefiting Postpartum Support International New Jersey Chapter. The event will take place at 10am at 4th Street Park in Ship Bottom, LBI, NJ and is being hosted by Postpartum to Powerful (Formerly Mindful Mama).

Saturday’s Climb out of the Darkness will feature yoga classes, chair massages & reiki healing. There will be activities for the kids, including scavenger hunts, face painting, coloring and more.

The  Climb Out of the Darkness for the Jersey Shore is meant to  raise awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like postpartum depression (PPD), anxiety, OCD and psychosis. Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders happen to one million women in the US alone each year. It affects 1 in every 7 women and is the most common complication of childbirth. Unfortunately, this cause receives very little support, yet these illnesses can have a lifelong impact on the health of both mother and child if untreated, and only 15% of moms get treated.

Postpartum Support International is a nonprofit organization and online community of support resources for providers and women experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). This event will solely benefit the New Jersey Chapter of this great organization to bring more resources to the Shore Areas.

Saturday will feature speakers and resources from all over New Jersey designed to bring awareness and a voice to the issue. PMADs education and inspiration activities include The Climb Walk Path, Release and Receive Activity and Why I Climb Wall.
